7-Figure Comp for AI Professionals?!
A recent article in the WSJ proclaimed, “The $900,000 AI Job is Here.”
There’s no doubt that AI technical skills are in hot demand, and that job postings related to generative AI in particular have skyrocketed.
But recent studies also highlight that “soft” skills are becoming more valuable. What are “soft” skills?
They are the ones that we struggle to define and find nearly impossible to measure. Bloom’s Taxonomy is a useful framework. Academic and technical skills fall in the lower 3 levels. But employers want analytical problem-solvers, good teammates, and creative thinkers. Those fall in the top 3 levels.
High-paying jobs in growth areas may be emphasizing technical AI skills today. Those will remain valuable, even as we expand training and skill development programs to teach them more broadly (likely using generative AI!).
When you’re looking for game-changers, though – the top 10% who generate 50%+ of value in your company – you’d be wise to emphasize the “soft” skills.
